Simultaneous robot-world and hand-eye calibration

چکیده
Recently, Zhuang et al. [1] proposed a method that allows simultaneous computation of the rigid transformations from world frame to robot base frame and from hand frame to camera frame. Their method attempts to solve a homogeneous matrix equation of the formAX = ZB. They use quaternions to derive explicit linear solutions for X and Z. In this short paper, we present two new solutions that attempt to solve the homogeneous matrix equation mentioned above: 1) a closed-form method which uses quaternion algebra and a positive quadratic error function associated with this representation; 2) a method based on nonlinear constrained minimization and which simultaneously solves for rotations and translations. These results may be useful to other problems that can be formulated in the same mathematical form. We perform a sensitivity analysis for both our two methods and the linear method developed by Zhuang et al. [1]. This analysis allows the comparison of the three methods. In the light of this comparison, the nonlinear optimization method, which solves for rotations and translations simultaneously, seems to be the most stable one with respect to noise and to measurement errors.

Simultaneous robot-world and hand-eye calibration using dual-quaternions and Kronecker product
Two solutions of the homogeneous matrix equation AX=ZB, that allows a simultaneous computation of the transformations from robot world to robot base and from robot tool to robot wrist coordinate frames, are proposed. The presented methods introduce the Kronecker product and dual quaternions to solve the rotations and translations problem, simultaneously, with no propagation error. The experimen...

متن کاملSolving the Robot - World / Hand - Eye Calibration Problem Using the Kronecker Product
This paper constructs a separable closed-form solution to the robot-world/hand-eye calibration problem AX1⁄4YB. Qualifications and properties that determine the uniqueness of X and Y as well as error metrics that measure the accuracy of a given X and Y are given. The formulation of the solution involves the Kronecker product and the singular value decomposition. The method is compared with exis...
متن کاملA hand-eye calibration algorithm based on screw motions
When computer vision technique is used in robotics, robotic hand–eye calibration is a very important research task. Many algorithms have been proposed for hand–eye calibration. Based on these algorithms, we introduce a new hand–eye calibration algorithm in this paper, which employs the screw motion theory to establish a hand–eye matrix equation by using quaternion and gets a simultaneous result...
متن کاملA World-Independent Approach for the Calibration of Mobile Robotics Active Stereo Heads
This paper describes an approach for calibrating active stereo heads for which no prior knowledge of the world coordinate system is required. During an automated procedure derived from this approach, the mobile robot can be loosely positioned in front of a calibration pattern. Through our procedure, both the camera calibration and the neck-eye calibration are obtained. With this set of calibrat...

In this paper we consider a mobile platform performing partial hand-eye calibration and Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) using images of the floor along with the assumptions of planar motion and constant internal camera parameters. The method used is based on a direct parametrisation of the camera motion, combined with an iterative scheme for determining the motion parameters from i...
